Author Biography:

Kazuki Takahashi, the author of YU-GI-OH, was born on October 4, 1961 in Tokyo.

The creator of YU-GI-OH! became passionate about drawing comics in his teens, and made his debut in Japan's best-selling weekly comic magazine, Shonen Jump, in 1991.

After taking some time to recharge his artistic energy, he began drawing the comics series YU-GI-OH! in 1996. The animated version of YU-GI-OH! debuted in 2000 and became an immediate hit, spawning a mania that included video games, animation, and a card game, all of which boasted record sales. 23 million comics have been sold thus far.

YU-GI-OH!'s appeal has spread across every facet of the media, and Kazuki Takahashi is now known as one of Japan's foremost comic artists.

The Card Game:

Duel Monsters is a card-battling game in which players pit different mystical creatures against one another in wild, magical duels! Packed with awesome monsters and mighty spell-cards, Yugi and his friends are totally obsessed with the game.

But there's more to this card game than meets the eye!

Legend has it five thousand years ago, ancient Egyptian Pharaoahs used to play a magical game very similar to Duel Monsters. This ancient game involved magical ceremonies, which were used to foresee the future and ultimately, decide one's destiny. They called it the Shadow Game, and the main difference back then was that the monsters were all real! With so many magical spells and ferocious creatures on the earth, it wasn't long before the game got out of hand and threatened to destroy the entire world! Fortunately, a brave Pharaoh stepped in and averted this cataclysm with the help of seven powerful magical totems.

Now, in present times, the game has been revived in the form of playing cards.

Meanwhile, Yugi's grandfather gives Yugi an old Egyptian puzzle that no one can solve, but when Yugi finally pieces the puzzle together, his life is forever changed. The puzzle instills Yugi with incredible powers, and ultimately creates his alter ego, Yami Yugi!

Soon after, the mysterious creator of the Duel Monsters card game, Maximillion Pegasus, kidnaps Yugi's grandfather and Yugi is drawn into a Duel Monster's competition that Pegasus arranged. Now Yugi must duel his way through a tournament and defeat Pegasus in order to save his grandfather.

How will Yugi do it? Will the help of his friends, his belief in the heart of the cards, and the mysterious power of his magical Millennium Puzzle be enough?

Characters:

Yugi Moto, Favorite Card: Dark Magician. Yugi is a young kid who lived with his Grandpa, who owned a duel monster's shop. He possesses the Millennium Puzzle, an item that has created an alternate ego of him, Yami Yugi. They were happy until Pegasus took Yugi's grandpa's soul. Yugi, to save his grandfather had to go to the duelist kingdom and gain 10 starchips to have a chance to fight Pegasus and have a wish granted, so he can save his grandpa, Seto and Mokuba.

Yami Yugi: Yugi's alternate ego, that came from the Millennium Puzzle. He is a lot more confident, but that might have something to do with the fact that he can access his shadow powers and knows a lot more about Duel Monsters. His eyes change amongst other things, but that's just so you can tell the difference. Him and Yugi work together to win duels after Yugi shut him away because he was willing to seriously injure Seto Kaiba.

Bakura, Favourite Card: Change of Heart. Bakura doesn't duel, he also possesses a millennium item, the millennium ring. Unlike Yugi, the ring takes complete control of Bakura and he can't stop it.

Joey Wheeler, Favourite Card: Flaming Swordsman. Joey entered the duelist kingdom to win the prize money to save his sister, Serenity. He only got into the duelist kingdom as Yugi sacrificed one of his starchips. He started off as a terrible duelist but made it into the finals, his skills improving each duel, having Yugi as a friend helped too. He is very load and always speaks his mind, which isn't always a good thing, like being totally embarrassed by Seto Kaiba.

Seto Kaiba, Favourite Card: Blue Eyes White Dragon. Seto Kaiba is the CEO of the Kaiba Corparation and the world champion of duel monsters. He really came a long way from being an orphan. Pegasus stole his brothers soul. He was the first person to beat Yugi but he CHEATED!!!!! His soul was trapped aswell as he lost against Pegasus as Pegasus CHEATED!!!!! with his millennium eye.

Mokuba Kaiba: Seto Kaiba's little brother, his soul was taken by Pegasus aswell, to further power his Millennium Eye. Seto came to the duelist kingdom to rescue his brother, but failed and has his soul taken aswell.

Maximillion Pegasus: Maximillion Pegasus is the creator of Duel Monsters which started of as a very serious shadow game in Egyptian times. He possesses the Millennium eye, and traps people souls in the shadow realm to further enhance his power. He isn't really a great Duel Monsters player apart from that he has access to every card and his MILLENNIUM EYE! He uses it to see other players cards and read their minds. He want to trap more people so he will have more powers and ultimately, ETERNAL LIFE!
